YMCA Nags Head Skatepark

Constructed in 2003, the 15,000-square-foot park was the first of its kind on the Outer Banks and includes concrete bowls, ramps and a wooden street section. Located beside the Outer Banks YMCA’s main building, the park has undergone some improvements and updates, and is now owned and operated by the Town of Nags Head. The skatepark is easily one of biggest on the Outer Banks, and is ideal for both beginner to advanced riders. Youngsters under the age of 12 must have a parent present to skate, and youth age 17 and younger must wear a helmet along with knee and elbow pads.

Fessenden Center Skate Park

Fessenden Center sits on the site formerly known as the Deforest Wireless Station. In 1902 Reginald Fessenden transmitted the first musical notes from this spot in Buxton, to Roanoke Island. At this site, you’ll find a playground, a couple ball fields, a history center and a wooden bowl for skateboarding. In addition to the bowl, there are a few quarter pipes and banks. The Fessenden Center Skatepark is completely free to the public and riders are not required to have a helmet or pads (although it’s a good idea!).
